Ben Deverman
Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard
Ben Deverman is an Institute scientist and senior director of Vector Engineering, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and a scientific founder of Apertura Gene Therapy. His laboratory focuses on engineering AAVs capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier and efficiently delivering gene therapies to the central nervous system. His early work at Caltech yielded the highly efficient AAV-PHP.eB capsid, which is now widely used in mouse neuroscience and preclinical studies. Recently he and his team developed novel approaches to engineer AAVs that bind specific human receptors like TfR1 for enhanced brain delivery. In ongoing work, he is collaborating with Apertura and other academic investigators to develop CNS gene therapies using his group’s novel AAVs.
