SPEAKER INFORMATION

Elizabeth Ng

Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Melbourne

Associate Professor Elizabeth Ng is co-Group Leader of the Blood Development Laboratory at MCRI. Her research uses human iPSCs to recapitulate the formation of developing haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in vitro. She has patented and licensed protocols for haematopoietic differentiation and media that support efficient production of blood cells. Her laboratory identified that expression of HOXA genes during differentiation is required to generate aorta-gonad-mesonephros (AGM)-like haematopoietic cells. In 2024, in collaboration with Andrew Elefanty and Ed Stanley, she generated engraftable HSCs from iPSCs, an important step towards the development of future cellular therapies. Her work is supported by the NHMRC, the MRFF, and Retro Biosciences. She is a Principal Investigator of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine.
